BMW Group has achieved a significant milestone in its journey toward sustainable mobility by selling its three millionth electrified vehicle. This achievement underscores the company's commitment to electrification as a core component of its product strategy.
The landmark sale was marked by the delivery of a 3 Series plug-in hybrid model from BMW's Munich plant to a customer, contributing to the company's robust growth in the electrified vehicle segment. In the first half of 2025 alone, BMW reported a substantial increase in sales of both fully electric models and plug-in hybrids, reflecting a rising consumer preference for sustainable transportation options. "With the delivery of the three millionth electrified vehicle, BMW Group reaffirms its position as a leader in the electrification of premium vehicles," said Jochen Goller, Member of the Board of Management of BMW AG. The company has seen electrified vehicles become an integral part of its product lineup, with more than 25% of BMW Group's sales in the first half of 2025 being electrified models.
Europe remains the largest market for BMW's electrified vehicles, accounting for over 60% of global deliveries. This trend is indicative of the continent's leadership in adopting sustainable automotive technologies. The popularity of BMW's plug-in hybrid vehicles has surged, with sales significantly up in 2025 compared to the previous year. In July, BMW celebrated another milestone with the sale of its 1.5 millionth fully electric vehicle—a MINI Countryman delivered in Portugal. If lined up, the total number of fully electric vehicles sold by BMW would stretch over 6,500 kilometers, equating to the distance from Munich to New York City.
BMW Group's commitment to sustainability is further evidenced by its strategic focus on electric, digital, and circular mobility. Currently, the automaker offers over 15 fully electric models and more than ten plug-in hybrids, including the BMW iX, which boasts a range exceeding 700 kilometers. This diverse lineup is part of a long-standing investment in e-mobility, with BMW having laid the groundwork for electrification over 50 years ago.
As BMW Group continues to innovate and expand its electrified offerings, it remains steadfast in its mission to lead the automotive industry toward a more sustainable future. The company's production network spans over 30 sites worldwide, and its sales reach extends to more than 140 countries. In 2024, BMW sold 2.45 million passenger vehicles and over 210,000 motorcycles globally. With a focus on long-term thinking and responsible action, sustainability is a key pillar of BMW Group's corporate strategy, influencing everything from supply chain management to production and product lifecycle.
